Imaging & Scans
Parkside Health offer a wide range of medical imaging and scans to diagnose and monitor various medical conditions.
Here are some common types of imaging and scans that we can help with:
X-rays:
X-ray imaging is used to visualise bones and certain internal structures like the chest, to detect fractures, infections, and other conditions.
CT Scan (Computed Tomography):
CT scans provide detailed cross-sectional images of the body and are used to diagnose conditions in the head, chest, abdomen, pelvis, and extremities. They are valuable for detecting tumors, injuries, and vascular issues.
MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging):
MRI scans use strong magnetic fields and radio waves to create detailed images of soft tissues, including the brain, spinal cord, joints, and organs. They are often used to diagnose neurological, musculoskeletal, and abdominal conditions.
Ultrasound:
Ultrasound imaging uses high-frequency sound waves to create real-time images of internal structures. It is commonly used for prenatal care, assessing blood flow, and examining the abdomen, pelvis, and soft tissues.
Mammography:
Mammograms are X-ray exams of the breast tissue and are used for breast cancer screening and early detection.
DEXA Scan (Dual-Energy X-ray Absorptiometry):
DEXA scans measure bone density and are used to diagnose osteoporosis and assess fracture risk.
PET Scan (Positron Emission Tomography):
PET scans are used to visualize metabolic activity in the body and detect conditions like cancer and neurological disorders.
Nuclear Medicine Scans:
These scans involve the use of radioactive materials to assess organ function and detect diseases. Examples include bone scans, thyroid scans, and cardiac stress tests.
Fluoroscopy:
Fluoroscopy provides real-time X-ray images and is used for procedures like barium enemas, angiography, and joint injections.
Echocardiography:
Echocardiograms use ultrasound to create images of the heart, helping to diagnose heart conditions and assess heart function.
Angiography:
Angiograms are used to visualise blood vessels and assess circulation. They can be performed in various areas of the body, including the heart (coronary angiography) and the brain (cerebral angiography).
Endoscopy:
Endoscopic procedures involve the insertion of a camera or a flexible tube with a camera to visualise the gastrointestinal tract, respiratory tract, or other internal structures.
Cystoscopy:
This is a type of endoscopy used to visualise the bladder and urinary tract.
Arthroscopy:
Arthroscopic procedures use a tiny camera to examine and treat joint conditions, often in the knee, shoulder, or hip.
Cardiac CT and MRI:
These specialised scans focus on the heart and are used to diagnose heart conditions and assess cardiac function.
These are some of the common imaging and scanning services that Parkside Health offers.
