Minor Surgery

Parkside Health offer minor surgery treatments.

Here are some treatments we can help with:

Minor surgery treatments are common medical procedures performed to address various medical conditions and injuries that do not require major surgical interventions.

These procedures are typically performed in outpatient settings and specialised minor surgery units.

Wound Closure and Suturing:

Minor cuts, lacerations, and wounds may require stitches or adhesive tape to close the wound and promote proper healing.

Skin Biopsies:

Skin biopsies are performed to diagnose or remove suspicious moles, skin lesions, or growths for further examination.

Cyst or Abscess Drainage:

When cysts or abscesses develop, they may need to be drained surgically to relieve pain and prevent infection.

Incision and Drainage:

This procedure is used to treat localised infections or abscesses by making a small incision and draining the infected material.

Ingrown Toenail Removal:

For ingrown toenails causing pain or infection, minor surgery can be performed to remove the affected portion of the nail.

Lipoma or Ganglion Cyst Removal:

Lipomas (benign fatty lumps) and ganglion cysts (fluid-filled lumps) can be surgically removed if they cause discomfort or cosmetic concerns.

Ear Wax Removal:

Procedures like micro suction or ear irrigation are used to safely remove impacted earwax.

Haemorrhoid Procedures:

Minor surgery can treat haemorrhoids, including rubber band ligation or infrared coagulation.

Excision of Skin Lesions:

Skin lesions such as warts, skin tags, or sebaceous cysts can be removed for cosmetic or medical reasons.

Joint Injections:

Minor surgery may be used to inject corticosteroids or other medications into joints to relieve pain and inflammation, as in the case of arthritis.

Nail Surgery:

Nail bed procedures can address chronic ingrown nails or fungal infections.

Vasectomy:

A surgical procedure for permanent male contraception, involving the cutting or blocking of the vas deferens.

Circumcision:

Surgical removal of the foreskin from the penis and is performed for various medical, cultural, or religious reasons.

Biopsy of Internal Organs:

Some minor surgery procedures involve taking tissue samples from internal organs, such as the prostate or breast, to diagnose or rule out cancer or other conditions.

Endoscopy Procedures:

Endoscopic procedures, such as gastroscopy and colonoscopy, may be considered minor surgery to examine and treat gastrointestinal conditions.

Insertion and Removal of Contraceptive Implants:

Minor surgery may be required for the insertion and removal of contraceptive implants, such as contraceptive rods.

Minor surgery is typically performed by trained Parkside Health professionals, including surgeons, dermatologists, general practitioners, and specialised nurses.

Patients may receive local anaesthesia or sedation for comfort during the procedure.

The choice of treatment and procedure will depend on the specific medical condition or injury and will be determined by a healthcare provider following a thorough assessment.
